In the heart of the municipality of San Gimignano stands the organic farm Podere le Volute which produces Chianti docg, a fragrant and pleasant Novello rosso di Toscana igt and obviously the famous Vernaccia di San Gimignano docg. The other excellence is the extra virgin olive oil.
The beginnings...
The company, located south of San Gimignano, was partly purchased in 1970 by the father of the current owner. Claudia, her daughter, officially began biodynamic agriculture in 1994 and has expanded the farm to include 1 ha of forest, 3 ha of olive grove and 5 ha of certified organic vineyard. Despite her father's doubts, Claudia obtained organic certification in 2 years and she practices sustainable methods, avoiding machinery that compacts the soil and herbicides. The company takes its name from the marine fossils of the area, growing mainly Vernaccia and Sangiovese, with some Merlot for the Novello di Toscana.
I work respecting nature with dedication and passion because I am personally involved in running the company and since its inception I have chosen to adopt the organic method, convinced that it is the only way to preserve natural balances with their biodiversity, bringing benefits first to the soil then to the plants that live there.
This allows me to exclude products that are harmful to the environment, animals and consequently to the final consumer. I produce to the detriment of quantity but in clear favor of quality and the wine I obtain is the one made in the vineyard and not in the cellar. The entire supply chain is controlled and certified by the organic farming control body Icea.
